To implement the breakthrough “Strengthening quality of female leaders working in Women’s Unions at all level with focus on the Central and grassroots levels”, the Viet Nam Women’s Union (VWU) held a training course on mentoring for leaders from the VWU and Women’s Unions in eight provinces of Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam, Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen with support from the project “Strengthening capacity of female leaders in the context of international integration” between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Addressing at the training course, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa hoped the course will be a good opportunity for trainees to access to a scientific method in mentoring and raising capacity for officers. She expected trainees to actively discuss and join practical exercise to achieve targets of the training course. She also asked officers from eight provinces to share and apply in localities in order to strengthen capacity of female leaders and potential ones.

At the training course, trainees were equipped with basic knowledge and skills for mentee and mentors to identify appropriate ways to effectively build up mentoring plan. Trainees also gained more skills to share and support others contributing improving working and consulting quality and well implementing the Union’s tasks. Ms. Jean Munro, Senior Technical Advisor of UNDP’s Women’s Leadership Project and lecture of the training course said it is a chance to learn and create trust among women and help them strengthen capacity and confidence to take part in and well perform their leadership role.
